Become a Friend of Concerts at First

Concerts at First celebrates its 14th season in 2013-2014.  During these brief years we have established ourselves in the community as a series that features consistently high quality music.  Our large, resonant sanctuary is ideal for choral singing, and the beautiful Hochhalter organ is a gem in the Eugene community with its warm sounds suited to Romantic repertoire.  Our Steinway piano is a wonderful instrument and the grand piano in Fellowship Hall allows for fun music programs in a less formal setting.  Groups such as the African Children’s Choir, the Oregon Brass Society, the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, international musicians such as Matthew Halls, Jeff Bradetich, and Jim Scott, young and upcoming artists such as Priscilla Dantas, Nathan Alef, Beth Mays, Spencer Hansen and so many others have been featured.  We are proud of this music outreach at FUMC and are looking for new ways to sustain and grow so we continue to provide a venue for excellent music by local and international artists at a reasonable cost, while also collecting food for our local food bank.

Concerts at First relies solely upon the generosity of donations received at each concert and is not funded by the church’s operating budget.  It is a self-sustaining program usually requesting a suggested donation of $10 at each event.  For the 2013-2014 season, we are inaugurating a Friends of Concerts at First support group to give us a solid financial base so we are able to plan with confidence. These Friends are individuals and businesses who believe in our mission to present affordable live concerts featuring world-class musicians and the finest repertoire of sacred and classical music for the cultural enrichment, education and enjoyment of all at Eugene First United Methodist Church and throughout the western Oregon region.

By sending us your tax-deductible contributions your benefits are:

  • Direct support for local performing musicians
  • Wonderful concerts not heard elsewhere
  • Recognition in concert programs

I invite you to look at the donation/volunteer form and let us know how you can help our concert series grow and flourish.

Sincerely,
Julia Brown
